Hello, My Name is Josh McRoberts
What's up everybody. I'm excited that I'm getting the chance to write my first blog here on Yardbarker. Hopefully I'll be able to give you something interesting to read and some insight into my first season in the NBA, on and off the floor. I'll be willing to talk about pretty much anything so give me some ideas about what you want to see or know more about.
I had a tough start to the season. Some of you may know that I sprained my ankle pretty bad the second or third day of training camp. It was a freak accident but in a few seconds I was out for a month. It was a pretty ugly sprain...my ankle swelled up quickly and my foot and toes were purple for about three weeks. The other guys on the team made me cover it up anytime they were around because it looked so bad. The good news is that I've had time to get stronger in the weight room before the start of the season and I finally get to start practicing again a little bit tomorrow. I can't wait!
I've enjoyed being in Portland so far, and I'm getting more comfortable and situated in my house. I'm living with two of my best friends Matt and Ian and we got lucky and found a pretty nice spot to live with a great view, i can try to upload a view pictures and maybe a tour of the house if theres any interest. Portland's a great city (especially when its sunny like it has been the past couple of weeks) and the people out here have been really nice.
Today was a tough day for me because my team lost to the evil empire that is the New England Patirots. I was born and raised in Indianapolis, so I'm a diehard Colts fan. It hurt to see them lose at home when they dominated the game for so long. I watched the game over at Greg's house with him, our friend Brandon, and G's uncle. Taurean Green came and watched with us too, not as a fan but as a loud-mouthed, bandwagon-riding hater. I don't know why he was there; other than to talk nonstop about how the Colts were going to lose and to give me a hard time about wearing a Bob Sanders jersey. It's going to take me a few days to get over it, and I owe a few guys on the team dinner so I'll hear about the loss for a while. I guess there's always next week though.
Other than that I don't have too much else to talk about right now. Give me a few ideas for next time and I'll try to keep this blog interesting and as entertaining as possible. Thanks for reading. See you soon.

Welcome

Welcome to the yard. I was having a hard time swallowing the Indy loss too, I hate those Patriot bastards. Glad to see you and Greg both wound up in Portland, good luck!
-
Hey! When your healed Nate should give you minuites early at the three so we can get more rebounds. Do you think you can play small forward sometimes?
-
I hate when people rub it in after your team loses. That pisses me off to no end. The Colts were ahead when I left for work, I didn't even know they lost until I read your blog. Now It's like I've been punched in the stomach. Anyway, glad you're on YB, I read your entry on Greg's that one time and it was good. Are you doing light practice on Monday or shooting around?
-
Welcome to the Yard!
Nice first blog post.
Since you haven't had much of a chance to play because of your ankle, here is a question about college. Who was the toughest ACC player you played against while at Duke?
Thanks for being here. -
you hate the patriots?
Well you're now a friend of mine... we have something in common -
what are some of your favorite places to go to in Portland?
-
Hey Josh
As a big duke fan I was sad to see you leave but I am glad that you ended up on a good young team with some old friends.
I live out in SF and alot of my buddies that I play ball with are big GS Warriors fans. I was telling them that you would have been an excellent pick at GS since they like to get out and run on transition and need guys who can pass, receive passes, and most of all rebound in a fast paced offense. What kind of system do you think best suits your particular skill set?
Look forward to hearing more from you -
Hey Mr. McRoberts. It's good to finally see you on Yardbarker. I know you are pretty close with Greg Oden, and I was surprised that you didn't get up and running on the site.
Anyway, I've been trying to press on Greg Oden through these comment streams, that it would benefit us all so much if you guys, from your unique vantage point, gave us exclusive content (videos, interviews, conversations) about the game and about the Portland Blazers. Go and interview Joel Pryzbilla about his journey in the NBA, or sneak us some video of the half time discussions during the game. Everything that helps us understand that professional athletes are real people too is good.
The more you give us, the happier we get, and ultimately the bigger the influence you have on the game. All the power to you Mr. McRoberts. Good luck to you! -
Lets be honest here, Thumbs.. have you ever been happy? =]
I agree though, more unique content! I want to see all that stuff you guys laugh at in the locker room that we normally never get to see.
Except for wet towel snapping... bad memories from elementary school.... -
haha wet towel slapping :-) but locker room convo would be cool
-
good idea, I like it... Do it Josh you know you want to!
-
You are not the only one having a tough time with Boston's success in sports this year :(
-
Welcome to Portland Josh! We love our Blazer players here; thanks for bringing back some of the classiness to our team. We can't wait to see you play!
-

-
God I hate the patriots and especially belichick! You should defintly upload those photos and a tour of the house. What part of portland did you land a house in?
-
Yeah dude welcome to the Yard. Pats suck, friggin' Colts should have won that game, damn fumbles....... oh sorry, anyway, Yeah dude welcome to Portland. I was bummed when I first heard about your ankle (I was telling everyone on iamatrailblazersfan.com that you were gonna be our starting 3) but its good to hear you're going to be able to practice. Also, a tour would be kickass. Good luck and get better
-
I know exactly how you feel, I sprained my right ankle pretty bad back in July playing ball during a visit to Denmark and it took over a month to heal. Here is hoping for you speedy recovery :)
-
Good stuff, I love seeing new athletes start posting on here.
Generic get to know the athlete questions:
What was the hardest thing to adjust to from college to the pros?
What was the first thing you splurged on when you signed?
-
Hey Josh, welcome to the 'Yard! Great to have you. I live in Indy too, however I'm a pretty huge Patriots fan. I love Randy Moss and have ever since his rookie year. Can't wait for the next blog.
BTW, Huge Duke fan, one of you ex-Blue Devils needs to win an NBA ring soon, might as well be you. -
Welcome Josh, and don't worry about those Colts, they will meet the Pats in January and come out on top.
-
Welcome to Portland. Yeah I was pulling for the Colts too. Next time, when it really counts.
-
welcome to the yard, Yea would love to the crib. What games do you play ? and system ?
-
Welcome.
-
It's great to have you a part of the team. I have been a die hard Blazer fan since I can remember. I hope Nate gives you some playing time this year. We will need your inside presence since Oden is out. I would like to hear more about practice and traveling with the team? I would also like to know about your college experience? What made you decide to come out? What is rookie life like? What embrassing stuff have the veterans made you do? Anyway, it is great to have you in P-town.
Ben -
Hey Josh-Welcome to Oregon! If anyone ever asks you to come to Salem, tell them no. Theres nothing here to see, you will truly be disapointed, it's an armpit. Hope to see you play soon, it's looking like we can use the help.
-
the colts game was rough but i think the first half of the blazers vs. rockets was even harder to watch! i'm not worried though, i know its early and everyone is trying to find their roles. you should post the tour and the pictures for sure. any behind the scenes stuff you want to share is very cool too. i look forward to seeing you on the floor soon so get better and go blazers!
-
hey josh - an idea to keep the blog interesting - hang out with taurean green more and just tell us what he says.
-
Good luck to you and the Blazers on Wednesday, I'm still trying to get my tickets but I think the game is sold out? Portland loves their Blazers! Good luck this season! Oh and welcome to Portland.. and YB. :)
-
Yess.. girl blazer fan!
-
The Pats vs Colts game last night sucked! Everybody I was with was going for the Patriots, I was the solo Colts fan, but I still cheered louder than anyone else. Didn't Patriots get caught cheating at the beginning of the season?
-
Welcome to the yard, I look foward to reading your posts.
-
I think a tour of your new pad would be interesting. But I can only imagine what a house with three younger gents would look like.
-
Welcome to Portland! We're excited to have you here. Too bad about the Colts, but Peyton Manning did his job for my fantasy football team. That guy is money every week.
Do you play video games? What's it like to see yourself in NBA Live 08 or NBA 2K8 ?? I have NBA Live 08 for PSP... I hired some really good coaches in dynasty mode and now you have the highest skills ratings of anyone on the team. Let's hope you can do the same in real life! -
Welcome to the NBA! Welcome to Portland
Any ETA on when you can play again?
Are you living out in the West Linn area?
How much did you want to get drafted by the team that drafted Oden? Did you feel like there was any chance that you could play with him on the same team before the draft?
Have you had a chance to get out of town to the coast, mountains, beaches, or desert? -
Josh:
As a Blue Devel and Trail Blazer basketball fan I was very excited to see Portland draft you. Welcome to the Pacific Northwest! I am an ex-small college basketball player and currently a high school basketball coach. You have worked under some great coaches in Coach K and now Nate McMillian. I am interested in learning about how much alike or different they are in their approach to the game. Thanks for taking the time to interact with the fans and best of luck to you as you begin your NBA career. -
haha josh
wow i am a huge fan you are so funny! and yes u should put a tour of your hosue on here -
Hey....ummmm i think you should talk about what was up with you and Lauren Conrad.....and if you have a girlfriend now ......cuz your pretty hott....and if you still talk to any from Duke like JJ or Greg Paulus....good luck this season.......
-
JOSH -- QUICK QUESTION ABOUT YOUR NEW PAD AND THE NEW CITY:
Does it feel like "Entourage" somewhat with you and your boys living in the big city together, and YOU are the star? Just out of curiosity, did they come out there with you or did they by chance already have things lined up in Portland? I think it's pretty cool that you can still be around your friends while living in a city you would have never dreamed of living in before. Good luck. -
LOL i want one
-
LOL, I see you Josh, that was a funny story. I feel you man, I was rooting for the colts too. If you are as much of an anti-patriots fan as I am, take a look at this and tell me it's not funny LOL

Good luck this season and I hope you can have an injury free rest of the season going forward -
Hey Josh, sorry to hear about your ankle I hope you have a full quick recovery! So I would love to see some pics of your view and house!!! As for the Colt's all though they are not "my team" (Go Broncos) I was rooting for them yesterday and had picked them to win in our pool at work! I like Peyton he is an awsome QB! I can't wait to see you play this year for the Trailblazers!
-
Josh, I was pulling for Indy too. How do you stop NE?? They are pretty tough. The playoffs will be interesting. I am sure that by playoff time and with NE running up scores in the fourth quarter some team is going to head hunt and I wouldn't be surprised if there is some key injuries by then. Go Colts! Looking forward to seeing you healthy and in action. Good luck with your recovery and welcome to Portland. We are happy to have you as a Blazer!!
-
Glad to see another blazer is blogging. I have heard very little about you other than you being Gregs friend. In the next post tell us a little more about yourself (family, pets, childhood sports, hometown, whatever...) Oh and the house tour would be fun, I always like getting an inside look on my blazers. Oh and we hear the team is really close nit so more stuff like today about the players getting together outside of basketball is nice. Can't wait to see you in a game!! Thanks for blogging it is greatly appreciated because we all know you don't have to do it. So thank you.
-
I appreciate all the welcome everyones given me....i didnt expect too many comments right away because I wasn't too familar with YB...I was pleasantly suprised when I checked back. I'll try to get another blog up in the next day or two and even pictures if I can figure out this camera....Practice went well today...felt great to be back on the floor. Thanks again. -Josh
-
Good luck with your future practices. I look forward to seeing you play soon.
Illini Lu -
Josh, it's Kerlew. I'll bet a can of dip my Pats will body your Colts for the 2nd time this season, in the superbowl. I only do Copenhagen, thanks.
-
Sorry, they're both in the AFC, the team that wins the AFC faces the team in the NFC. So they could meet in the AFC championship game, but not the SB.
-
Welcome to Portland Josh. You're just in time for our ultra-depressing fall/winter season. Perfect for tons of basketball. ;) Hoping to see you on the court sooner rather than later, the team could use your passing skills.
Tell T Green to get a blog! -
So only one person brought it up, but yeah lets hear about conrad, how was it?
